About the role
The Payroll Accountant supports payroll operations by focusing on financial control and regulatory compliance.
The role ensures the accurate execution of payroll-related accounting tasks, serving a large and diverse workforce.
Key to success is delivering high-quality payroll accounting outcomes through consistent, productive, and predictable processes.
What you'll be doing LeadershipLeveraging the AGL Leadership Capability Framework, set high standards, obtain feedback, and understand strengths & development opportunities to develop self and drive performance.Share knowledge and work collaboratively, including across different payroll areas to deliver on core objectives and achievements as a payroll team.Operational ExecutionFollow Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and Checklists to ensure that processes applied are consistent, predictable and productive.Generate and distribute payroll reports for key stakeholders and use Power BI to create payroll dashboards and provide data-driven insights and analytics to support the payroll function.Ensure accurate and timely payment of all entitlements provided through Payroll by reviewing payroll results to confirm payroll details, and statutory and taxation obligations are correct.Reconcile third-party payments, including super, PAYG, novated leases, child support, and union fees.Prepare and reconcile month-end adjusting journal entries and balance sheet accounts such as leave, superannuation, and workers' compensation using an accounting ERP system.Management of payroll tax preparation and reconciliation for multiple entities across various states.Complete quarterly employee share purchase reconciliations and assist with reporting on WGEA, FBT, and Work Cover wage declaration.Collaborate with the payroll operational team to address outstanding reconciliation items or recurring issues that impact payroll GL reconciliations.Ensure adherence to AGL's data protection policy and safeguard confidential payroll data from unauthorized access or breaches.Customer ServiceDeliver high-quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including employees and business partners.Communicate payroll issues and resolutions effectively, maintaining clear documentation of procedures.Solve operational queries by analyzing pay results for issue resolution and query management, ensuring that payroll critical issues are escalated as appropriate.Compliance & Continuous ImprovementIdentify, recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives across payroll accounting and exception time management in partnership with both internal and external stakeholders, and the broader Payroll team.Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholder teams to ensure compliance and improve system efficiency.Building a robust pre-payroll reconciliation for the payroll team before the payroll posting.Propose and implement improvements to enhance payroll accounting processes and operational efficiency.Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll regulations and assist with audit processes.Maintain accurate and updated payroll accounting process documentation.Assist with testing for resolution of operational system issues and implementation of payroll changes for new business or statutory requirements.What you'll bring to the table A degree or practical experience in accounting or a related field.Hands-on experience with end-to-end payroll activities, including financial reconciliations and compliance with employment regulations.Experience working with multiple payroll cycles, EBAs, and superannuation arrangements.Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience and managing offshore/outsourced service providers.Strong ability to identify areas for process improvement and implement effective solutions.Proven capability in leading and developing an enterprise-wide payroll accounting / Analyst function in complex and diverse businesses across varied stakeholder groups and multiple locations in high-change environments.Experience with ERP HRIS Payroll and Accounting systems.Proficiency in Excel, with advanced skills in reporting tools like PowerQuery, PowerBI, and automation solutions.Excellent attention to detail, numerical proficiency, problem-solving abilities and outstanding analytical skills, together with a solution-focused outlook.A good understanding of superannuation schemes, with knowledge of Defined Benefits being advantageous.Good understanding of end-to-end payroll processes and procedures, including from new starter to termination, year-end reconciliations and financial postings.Effective communication at all levels, both written and verbal, including documentation of payroll procedures.We'd love to see your application by: 11:59pm, Wednesday 13 November 2024 At AGL, we offer a wide range of benefits including: Flexible working options including hybrid work.Discounts on energy, telcos and solar plans.Participate in Energise - our reward & recognition program.Play an active role in our diversity & inclusion initiatives.Novated leasing and Electric Vehicle subscriptions.Access to study assistance, AGL's share purchase plan and insurance deals.* Benefits may change over time and vary based on location.
