Climate change and sustainable ocean food production are additional programs that are under development to further our protection of oceans and natural ecosystems.This work will see an increase in ecosystem resilience to human-driven threats, including climate change.Job DescriptionAbout the OpportunityReporting to the Executive Director, Natural Ecosystems. The Director Climate Action is a multifaceted, senior role, and a key member of the Natural Ecosystems Leadership Team. You will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing strategies that combine both top-down and bottom-up approaches to tackle one of the most pressing global challenges – climate change.We are seeking an inspiring and influential leader who will drive transformative climate initiatives, engaging across sectors to amplify our voice and impact. You will leverage your deep networks across government, NGOs, businesses, and philanthropic sectors, both in Australia and globally, to amplify the Foundation’s voice in climate advocacy. With a values-based and inclusive leadership approach, you will inspire both internal teams and external stakeholders to advance climate action.The primary focus of the role will include (but not limited to):• Developing and implementing a long-term Climate Action strategy using a systems thinking approach to create systemic behaviour change and measurable impact.
• Lead and manage a high-performing team of three climate professionals. Fostering a collaborative, high performing culture and ensuring alignment with Minderoo’s mission and strategic objectives.
• Cultivate and leverage strong networks with key stakeholders across government, NGOs, businesses, and philanthropy, amplifying our influence in the climate space.
• Spearhead climate initiatives, focusing on decarbonization pathways, environmental policy, and evidence-based advocacy.
• Drive initiatives related to decarbonisation, carbon dioxide removal solutions (land sinks, ocean sinks, engineered), and advocate for evidence-based policy solutions.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, driving cross-sector engagement and partnerships.
• Ensure the Foundation is at the forefront of climate science, leading impactful projects and research.
• Ensure we are operating in alignment with our Founders’ intent and that we apply a long term “resolve the problem” approach.
• Collaborate and build effective relationships across Minderoo.QualificationsAbout YouThe ideal candidate will be passionate about climate action and motivated to make a real difference.PhD in Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.A wealth of relevant experience in climate science, decarbonisation pathways, environmental policy, or philanthropy.Proven track record of leading impactful climate initiatives and campaigns.Expertise in carbon dioxide removal solutions or evidence-based climate advocacy preferred.A strong reputation and established networks across key stakeholders in climate change in Australia and globally.A strategic thinker with the ability to design and implement long-term visions and frameworks for systemic change.Demonstrated ability to think years ahead and drive long-term, systemic impact.Strong communicator with exceptional influencing and networking skills.This is an exciting opportunity leading transformative work in the climate space.
