Full Job Description
We are partnering with a local government department based in Emerald to find an exceptional Environmental Health Officer. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the community to provide environmental and public health services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support the delivery of all environmental health responsibilities in accordance with established legislation and procedures, maintaining a client-focused service.
2. Manage the application process for licenses, registrations, and permits, including approvals, renewals, and transfers within statutory timeframes.
3. Audit, regulate, and enforce activities licensed, registered, or approved by council.
4. Investigate complaints, conduct inspections, and identify appropriate enforcement actions.
5. Resolve disputes and appeals related to environmental health functions of the council.
6. Provide environmental and public health advice and recommended conditions of approval for development applications.
7. Effectively plan and establish priorities, monitor workflows, and ensure relevant timeframes are met.
8. Actively participate in ongoing training and self-development to achieve continuous improvement for yourself and the council.
9. Increase community awareness of environmental health issues and responsibilities, and participate in environmental health promotional and educational activities.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
Mandatory:
1. Solid technical knowledge relating to public health, environmental protection, health promotion, social issues, and sustainable development.
2. Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, Australian standards, local laws, and policies in environmental health.
3. Demonstrated ability to research and draft replies to correspondence, reports, and other documentation.
4. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable:
1. Extensive knowledge of work activities, work practices, and procedures relevant to the unit.
2. Experience using Dataworks and Civica.
3. Ability to work autonomously and unsupervised to complete set tasks.
Qualifications and Education Required
Mandatory:
1. Tertiary qualifications in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or other Environmental Health Australia (EHA) accredited course from a recognised tertiary institution, relevant to the tasks and responsibilities of the position.
2. Minimum of Queensland C class provisional driver's license.
Desirable:
1. Membership of Environmental Health Australia or able to gain membership.
2. Local Government authorised persons Asbestos Training Certificate.
The estimated salary for this role is between $54-$60 per hour.
