Economic Modelling Lead
* Salary: $134,593 - $180,115 (Plus Superannuation)
* Ongoing role, Full time (flexibility may be available)

The Role
The Economic Modelling Lead plays a pivotal role in leading the design, delivery and continuous enhancement of Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) 's core economic models, including its Employment Model and Vocational Education and Training Skills Alignment (VETSA) model.
In this role, you will work with your Team Manager to set the direction for the VSA's economic modelling and collaborate with stakeholders across Government to embed modelling outputs into decision-making. You will be the VSA's go-to expert for economic modelling techniques and methodologies and, alongside your Team Manager, work with a dedicated group of analysts and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.
Key accountabilities include :
* Lead the development and delivery of VSA's core modelling projects and products, including the Employment Model, Training Demand model and VET and Higher Education to Labour Demand Alignment (VHELDA) model.
* Lead the continuous improvement of economic models and frameworks across the Victorian Skills Authority, acting as a technical expert within the organisation.
* Mentor and support team members, providing guidance on complex analytical challenges and working with the team manager to foster a collaborative, innovative and high-performing team.
* Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, providing high-quality, timely and influential advice that supports policy-setting across the skills and employment system in Victoria and maximise the impact of the team's analytical products.
The Team
The position of Economic Modelling Lead forms a part of the Analysis and Insights Branch within the Victorian Skills Authority.
The key role of this Branch is to deliver cutting edge advice on skills needs, labour market intelligence and VET performance in Victoria. Its program of work includes:
* developing high quality projects such as the Victorian Skills Plan
* delivering a survey program to approximately 30,000 Victorian employers of apprentices and trainees and around 180,000 Victorian VET students
* generating detailed insights into VET quality, performance and outcomes
* forecasting labour demand, estimating VET training needs, assessing skill shortages, modelling skills trends and conducting sophisticated analysis.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:
* Specialist Expertise for Research, Analysis & Evaluation: Advanced expertise in leading the development and delivery of complex economic models and quantitative analysis. Proven track record in identifying and implementing enhancements to economic models and analytical products, resulting in increased accuracy, efficiency, and relevance to policy and decision-making processes.
* Conceptual and Analytical Ability: Demonstrated expertise in conceptual thinking and sound analytical approaches to support decision making. Proven ability to produce clear and insightful quantitative and qualitative analyses using tools like R or Python, ensuring findings are easily understood by key stakeholders and decision-makers. Can recognise patterns and relationships within complex systems to guide analysis and address key questions effectively.
* Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver projects on time while ensuring high-quality outcomes. Effectively coordinates resources, manages timelines and drives results with minimal supervision. Experience in mentoring junior staff members and fostering a high-performance culture that actively promotes collaboration and a commitment to continuous improvement.
* Relationship Building and Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Effectively engages these stakeholders to support strategic decision-making and maximise the impact of analytical products. Builds trust, forges mutually beneficial partnerships and fosters harmony through the diplomatic handling of disagreements.
