Due to our sustained growth, we are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative team in Brisbane.In this position, you will actively participate in engineering design, regularly interface with clients, and mentor the mechanical engineering team on multidisciplinary projects.Sedgman Prudentia has upcoming long-term projects in the development of sustainable aviation fuel and decarbonisation initiatives.The role's primary focus is to technically lead the mechanical and piping engineering efforts for these projects through their next phases.The role would also provide mentoring and guidance to the company's mechanical and piping teams as they work through a strong pipeline of projects across all our markets.Role Requirements & Experience: The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach, the ability to work autonomously, and meet the following criteria: Tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as RPEQ and CPEng/PEng.Experience in the resource industry, specifically with process plants for oil and gas production and refinement, chemicals manufacturing, or mineral processing.Demonstrated project delivery experience from concept through to detailed design and execution, including advising on operating brownfield plants.Experience in technically leading mechanical and piping engineering and design teams in project consulting or operating environments.Strong technical background with thorough knowledge of standards, guidelines, and engineering methodology relevant to your industry background (e.g., piping, mechanical process equipment, pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, rotating equipment, steelwork, or conveyors).Sound understanding of engineering resource management on projects specific to the mechanical and piping disciplines and interactions with other engineering disciplines and designers.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to mentor and coach team members.Flexibility to travel to site from time to time for inspections. Highly regarded skills and experience: Ability to actively lead engineering activities by demonstrating hands-on engineering skills and mentoring junior engineers.Knowledge of piping design, including previous experience in defining piping system requirements in complex process systems, as well as stress analysis experience and the willingness to supervise or self-perform analysis and design work.Knowledge of mechanical pressure equipment design practices and the ability to produce designs for equipment and modifications to pressure equipment.Familiarity with integrity management concepts in operating plants, including fitness-for-service assessment methodology.Familiarity with the selection and sizing of pumps for fluid systems or other rotating equipment such as compressors.Familiarity with equipment design and piping in oil refining or similar complex process systems.Knowledge of equipment layout and piping requirements in petroleum and gas industries or similar high-risk heavy industrial or resource processing plants.Experience in dealing with operating brownfield plants and integrating projects and plant expansions into brownfield facilities.
