What we are looking for: The Development Compliance Officer position is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a regulatory environment and enjoys a mix of investigation, customer service, and legal processes.
You will ensure compliance with planning, building, and local laws by conducting investigations, preparing legal documents, and supporting enforcement actions across the Fraser Coast region.
This role offers the chance to make a significant impact by advising stakeholders, resolving conflicts, and ensuring legislative compliance.
You'll work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to the ongoing development of the team.

What your day will look like: Enforce legislative Acts, Planning Schemes, Regulations, and policies to ensure compliance within required timeframes.
Provide advice on legislative matters and compliance issues to stakeholders.
Conduct independent investigations of alleged breaches, obtaining lawful evidence.
Prepare reports, notices, and legal documents, ensuring compliance with legislative timeframes.
Prioritise workloads and assess risks to ensure efficient compliance management.
Recommend legal proceedings and prepare Briefs of Evidence for enforcement actions.
Execute Warrants and Orders to enter for enforcement tasks.
Conduct amenity, aesthetics, and building assessments in accordance with planning schemes.
Investigate and resolve complaints using tact, discretion, and professional judgment.
Liaise with government agencies, law firms, and prepare legal documents for court when required.

What you'll need for success: Certificate IV (AQF level 4 or above) in relevant field of study or relevant Trade Qualification (AQF level 3 or above) and relevant experience as detailed in the competency table What's nice to have: Ability to acquire a Certificate IV (AQF level 4) in Government Investigations (statutory compliance) Tertiary qualifications (AQF level 7 or above) in a relevant discipline such as town planning, building, land management, environmental management, on-site environmental management, government or law.
Swimming Pool Inspectors Licence.
Building Surveyor Accreditation.
