It provides acute, sub-acute, primary and community‐based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding regions.To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 3 +North Canberra Hospital - Bruce is a 256 bed public hospital providing acute and sub-acute services, with our Emergency Department receiving around 55 thousand presentations per year supporting the ACT and south eastern New South Wales region of Australia.The Canberra Hospital is a 600+ bed tertiary trauma and referral hospital providing services to the ACT and south eastern New South Wales region of Australia. It is the principal teaching hospital of the Australian National University (ANU) Graduate Medical Program. It is one of the busiest EDs in the country:We are seeing just under 100,000 presentations per annum.We have approximately 20% paediatric presentations.We have high acuity with admission rates of more than 35%.We have a significant trauma caseload.Consultants are present in the department from 8.00am until midnight seven days a week, and are on call overnight. Emergency Medicine SMRO’s work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to apply medical knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients who present to the emergency department. SRMOs can be responsible for patient in care in all areas of the ED – Resuscitation Bays, Fast Track, Acute, Behavioural Assessment, Paediatrics and the Emergency Medicine Unit.Participation in extra-curricular activities, such as completion of the Emergency Medicine Diploma or completion of an audit, are encouraged and supported.Rotations may include : Duties :Provide day-to-day medical care for patients of Canberra Health Services, seeking Emergency Health Care.Maintain adequate medical records with legible entries.Participate in the supervision and education of more junior medical staff and medical students.Participate in the after-hour’s roster as required and in accordance with current safe working hour’s provisions.Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.Work within and support the multidisciplinary clinical team.Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high quality person and family centred, safe and high quality patient care.Be responsible for immediate patient care including adequate history taking, physical examination, ongoing continuous review of patient condition and progress, investigations and therapy indicated by unit protocol or as directed by the duty specialist.
