The Opportunity
WSP is seeking an experienced, solution-focused, and pragmatic Legal Counsel to cover parental leave in our Australian office for six months.
The role can be based in either our Perth or Brisbane office and will report to the Head of Legal, Mining and Energy.
As a trusted advisor, your responsibilities will include providing legal services related to commercial contracts, insurance, and corporate governance, as well as supporting our Australian business with general legal advice.
Your key activities will involve:
Drafting and negotiating engineering services contracts, standard form contracts/subcontracts, and other commercial agreements for large infrastructure projects.
Providing legal expertise to inform commercial decisions and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation across the organisation.
Developing the legal capabilities of the business and establishing efficient processes to mitigate risks.
Serving as the primary point of contact for internal/external clients under the guidance of the Head of Legal, Mining and Energy.
Delivering high-quality work, meeting deadlines, and keeping clients informed.
Contributing to training programs for non-legal staff.
About You
We're looking for a candidate with:
Typically 5 to 6 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in engineering and/or construction law.
A Bachelor of Laws degree recognised in Australia.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with people at all levels.
Strong negotiating, drafting, and project management skills.
Ability to resolve internal escalations effectively.
Capacity to provide commercially focused legal support.
Innovative and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail.
Willingness to research, explore, and recommend commercially viable options and solutions.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, open to new ideas, willing to compromise, and share information.
