In the Air Force, Fitter and Turners are called Ground Mechanical Engineer Fitters (GMEFITT) and although their work can be equated to civilian Fitter and Turners, that's where the similarity ends.
What you'll do
Your day-to-day tasks could include the diagnosis, service, and repair of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical components on:
1. Defence plant
2. Aircraft Arrestor Systems
3. Small Arms Weapons Systems
4. Heavy Vehicles
5. Aviation Ground Support Equipment
As a Fitter and Turner, you are responsible for:
6. Manufacture of tools, jigs, dies, fixtures and gauges
7. Repair and modification of selected Ground and Aviation components
8. Safe operation of the ground and aviation fuel installations
