About the Role We are looking for an experienced Research and Development Manager or Senior Scientist specialised in bacterial biofilms and antibiofilm drug screening in human health, animal health, industrial corrosion, consumer products and/or marine fouling settings. This role will report to the Chief Scientific Officer and work closely with the broad R&D team to augment Lixa's antibiofilm discoveries, research and product developments, within our broader resistance breaking R&D program. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 10 years' experience in antibiofilm R&D, brings strong scientific acumen, people management and project management capabilities to a diverse and growing team. This is a key role within the Lixa R&D team and requires a person enthusiastic about solving Antimicrobial Resistance and biofilm fouling. The ideal candidate will have a track record in biofilm commercial R&D or a substantial academic publication record, bring excellence in technical writing and promotion. The role is available full-time and is a continuing position after a six-month probationary period. Key duties includeSupport the expansion of Lixa's biofilm model arsenal, experimental designs, data management systems, screening cascades and trials;Project management of antibiofilm R&D projects to time and budget.Management and expansion of the Lixa biofilm laboratory and group (currently 2 FTE).Preparation, review and/or approval of experiment reports, status updates, work instructions and scientific publications.Contribute to Discovery, R&D and clinical trial supportive activities.Ensuring experiments are performed and results recorded according to industry standards and regulatory requirements. Skills and Experience Essential selection criteria include:Minimum PhD qualification in scientific field and progressively responsible experience, with a minimum ten years' experience working in R&D;Astute application of scientific principles, data integrity and statistical analysis.Strong understanding of confidentiality, privacy and information handling principles; Strong organisational skills, including experience with recording experiments to Good Documentation Practices and the ability to set priorities, manage time, develop efficient workflows and plan work to meet project milestones and deadlines;In-depth working knowledge of microbiology and biofilm models including crystal violet, flow cells, biofilm culture media, and/or 3D biofilm microscopy;Exceptional written communication, including evidence of published research and key involvement with successful grant applications or commercial R&D collaborations.Meticulous attention to detail, a keen eye for process improvement, and strong problem-solving abilities.Inspiring leadership skills and a proven ability to retain, build and inspire a highly skilled team towards optimum performance, and to collaborate with 3rd party laboratories, including universities and contract research organisations.Demonstrated record of successful project management across concurrent projects with the ability to complete projects to budgets and deadlines.Demonstrated focus on honesty, integrity and pursuit of quality science Desirable attributes include:Experience with 3D biofilm models and visualization of 3D biofilms using Revvity's Operetta CLS and/or Opera Phenix system, or Carl Zeiss' CD7 system;Experience with Revvity's Harmony software package; andExcellent communication skills with experience delivering presentations at scientific conferences; Applications must include a current resume, the names and contact details for two referees and a cover letter that addresses the selection criteria, as well as stating why you are interested in the role.
