You can help improve lives and create a positive impact in your communityIt's an opportunity to enhance your skills & knowledge & gain new experiencesYou'll be helping Red Cross to support vulnerable people across AustraliaThe program Red Cross assists people in times of need by providing a range of low-cost mobility equipment and personal care aids for short-term hire, to assist people in their home environment.The opportunityThe volunteer will be responsible for responding to enquiries, identifying and providing customers with the most appropriate short-term hire mobility aids, maintaining and carrying out equipment, cleaning and servicing requirements as well as completing hire and return procedures.The MEHS Volunteer is the first contact point for MEHS clients and is responsible for the following duties:Assist customers to identify the most appropriate mobility aid in conjunction with their referralHire mobility equipment to clients requiring short-term equipment hireProvide customers with guidelines for the correct use of the mobility aid/sCommunicate with clients on a one-to-one basis, respecting the clients' right to confidentialityPositively contribute to workplace health and safety practices including an understanding of maintenance and carrying out cleaning requirements (health permitting)Ensure the effective management and resolution of client and volunteer issues, grievances and complaintsEnsure open, professional, positive, respectful and constructive style of communication in all interactionsComplete the associated paperwork and process paymentsParticipate in orientation and training sessionsCommunicate openly with the service convenor and other volunteers regarding the running of the service and any related concernsThe impact As a volunteer, you will help vulnerable older people to feel safe and improve their social connection by listening, empathising, and providing them with a friendly voice.
