Job Description
Under the limited direction of the Senior Forest Practices Officer/Senior Silviculturist:
1. Assist the forest management team to implement innovative approaches to monitoring and forest operations surveillance, while working in a collaborative manner with stakeholders.
2. Undertake analysis, interpretation and reporting on data collected from monitoring programs and implement work priorities and projects.
3. Prepare correspondence, reports, assist with briefing notes and meeting minutes.
4. Provide advice on forest management issues and liaise with internal and external stakeholders as required.
5. Undertakes field and aerial stratification to map areas using ArcGIS incorporating data into the corporate data, including using drone technology and analysis of drone imagery.
6. Assists with and manages the development of projects that will contribute towards implementation of forest management plans.
7. Review, revise and implement the guidelines and subsidiary documents for monitoring forest management activities.
8. Prepare training material and train internal staff or external stakeholders.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following three (3) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than two (2) pages in total.
9. Understanding and experience with the operational implementation of sustainable forest management policies, procedures, and practices, including the use of silviculture to achieve management objectives.
10. Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with scientific monitoring and the ability to undertake field monitoring activities.
11. Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills, including experience with management of data and data analysis including the use of related software (such as GIS and databases).
