The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School.
The hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The Tasmanian Neurosurgical Unit is a Statewide Service receiving elective and emergency Neurosurgery and Neurology patients and treats a wide range of Neurological and Neurosurgical conditions including Cranial and Spinal Trauma, Tumours, Vascular, Paediatric and Complex Spine.

The new rates apply to this position and are effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023.
Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees Classification Medical Practitioner Level 5-11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar) Period of Employment Fixed term, full time day work, 80 hours per fortnight, commencing 05 February 2024 until 03 February 2025 (24 months negotiable) Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.
Location Surgical Services – Neurosurgery, Royal Hobart Hospital Duties The Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as required.
Essential Requirements Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment.
It is the employee's responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change.
This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
