About the role
The Data Scientist is a lead role within the Strategic Analytics team of Data & Analytics Function (D&A). The Data Scientist will be responsible for the provision of specialist, expert analytical advice utilising advanced techniques to develop new ways to address the challenges associated with preventing harm and assisting workers’ to recover from any injury or illness.
The Data Scientist will have a passion for solving problems, delivering insights from data and analytical models and being able to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences through advanced visualisations.
Working closely with the Design Team, the Data Scientist will support the ongoing enablement of delivering an advanced analytical and machine learning capability within WorkSafe. Uplifting data and model literacy and capability within the organisation to make a tangible impact, realising business and community benefits. This role works closely with other data scientists, business data analysts, and business stakeholders, to deliver analytic applications and insights that drive the performance of our business.
Key accountabilities:
* Providing thought leadership in both using data to solve business problems and in arriving at innovative statistical solutions
* Collaborate with business stakeholders to define opportunities and solutions for leveraging data to build predictive and prescriptive assets that deliver business value
* Assisting development and implementation of best practice data science guidelines and Machine Learning Operations (MLOPs) capability to improve the analytic and modelling processes.

About you
You are an expert Data Scientist with 3-5 years’ experience. You have an inquisitive mind and passion for solving problems. Your communication skills are highly developed and you have excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines. You have demonstrated tech leadership with the ability to provide this leadership to your team and stakeholders. You are an innovative thinker, promoting innovation techniques and are able to manage uncertainly and complexity. Further, you will also possess:
* Ability to clearly understand business needs and problems and identify the value potential analytical solutions can deliver
* Ability to create advanced visualisations to present complex data in an intuitive and engaging format
* Experience in developing analytical applications to support business objectives and deliver measurable value.
* Proven ability to work collaboratively within project delivery teams.
Qualifications:
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Actuarial or other technical fields)
* Specialisation in Advanced Visualisation highly regarded
