This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and CA/CPA-qualified financial professional to work within a dynamic government environment.As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role in providing technical advice to all DCS portfolio agencies on the applicability of relevant accounting standards, NSW Treasury directions, Government Sector Act 2018, legislative requirements, and audit standards. Your expertise will be pivotal in managing complex transactions and supporting the Chief Financial Officer in making informed decisions on financial implications.Key Responsibilities:Provide technical advice on the applicability of relevant accounting standards, NSW Treasury directions, and other government regulations to DCS portfolio agencies.Support the Chief Financial Officer with strategic decision-making regarding complex financial transactions and arrangements.Independently prepare financial reports, ensuring compliance with government legislation and auditing requirements.Manage and mentor staff, offering guidance and support in the preparation and presentation of financial statements.Oversee the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring they meet regulatory and legislative requirements.Ensure that all financial transactions are recorded and reported in a timely and accurate manner.Assist in the development and implementation of financial strategies, policies, and controls.Required Qualifications & Experience:CA/CPA qualification is essential.6+ years of experience in financial accounting, with a focus on complex government accounting environments.Proven ability to manage and mentor a team of financial professionals.Strong understanding of financial reporting standards, government accounting regulations, and auditing processes.Demonstrated ability to prepare and review financial statements independently.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise advice to senior management and stakeholders.Desirable Skills & Attributes:Experience in a government or public sector accounting environment.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders.Proactive and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.Applications received after the due date may be considered for similar roles.
