We are looking for an experienced Production Planner and Estimator to join our team and support ongoing growth by driving our production activities.
Your role will be integral to optimising our business processes by overseeing and coordinating key production activities from estimating, planning and job management.
The position is a full-time permanent opportunity based in Unanderra, NSW.
Duties and Responsibilities Review project specifications, engineering drawings, and customer requirements to develop accurate cost estimates Prepare detailed quotations, including labor, materials, and subcontracting costs, ensuring competitive pricing and profitability Production Scheduling & Coordination:
Develop and maintain production schedules, balancing workload across available resources and equipment Coordinate efficient job sequencing and timely completion of projects Monitor job progress and adjust schedules as needed to accommodate changes, delays, or urgent work Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders to provide realistic lead times and manage expectations Identify material requirements for production jobs and ensure timely ordering to prevent shortages or delays Work closely with suppliers to source materials, negotiate pricing, and track deliveries Oversee the receipting of incoming materials, ensuring they meet quality and specification standards Key characteristics of the ideal candidate: 1.
Strong Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
Ability to analyse technical drawings, project requirements, and costs to develop accurate estimates and efficient production schedules Quick decision-making skills to resolve production bottlenecks, material shortages, or scheduling conflicts 2.
Industry Knowledge & Technical Understanding
Solid understanding of metal fabrication, welding processes, and machining techniques Familiarity with materials, manufacturing tolerances, and industry standards 3.
Attention to Detail & Accuracy
Precision in preparing estimates and production schedules to avoid costly errors or inefficiencies Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and procurement activities 4.
Proficiency in Scheduling & ERP/MRP Systems
Experience using production planning software, ERP/MRP systems, or scheduling tools to streamline operations Ability to track work progress, allocate resources effectively, and adjust plans as needed Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with customers, suppliers, workshop teams, and management Ability to translate technical information into clear instructions for production staff 6.
Commercial Awareness & Cost Control
Understanding of job costing, profit margins, and pricing strategies to ensure competitiveness and profitability Negotiation skills to secure the best pricing and lead times from suppliers 7.
Ability to Work Under Pressure & Adaptability
