Primary objective Manage Alice Springs based historical and heritage collections, including Government and community archives; provide community and government access to the collections including the provision of research enquiry services and promote Library and Archives NT (LANT) collections and services in Central Australia. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Manage the transfer of archives from government agencies and receive and process donations from the community. 2. Manage storage of and access to collections, including the monitoring of storage conditions for the preservation of the archival collections and manage disaster preparation and response. 3. Provide research enquiry services to the community via the public reading room in Alice Springs, over the phone and online. 4. Develop content for LANT's website and social media and engage the community with LANT collections and services through events and public programs. 5. Manage the Alice Springs office and facilities including equipment maintenance, liaison with NT Property Management; and ensuring Work Health and Safety compliance. Selection criteria Essential 1. Demonstrated experience in a library, archives or other cultural collections environment. 2. Knowledge of database management systems, digitisation, multimedia equipment and associated programs. 3. Knowledge of reference and research practices including the use of archival and non-archival sources. 4. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, with a particular awareness and understanding of Aboriginal cultures. 5. High level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. 6. Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to handle high volumes of work and multiple tasks, adjust to changing priorities, and reliably follow up assigned tasks and communications. 7. Ability to work well in a small team and also as a member of a geographically distributed organisation, as well as being self-directed and motivated to achieve identified objectives. 8. A keen interest and knowledge of Northern Territory history. Desirable 1. Sound understanding of library and/or archives services and their collections.
