Job DescriptionLocation: Melbourne | CBDJob type: Full Time - Fixed TermOrganisation: Department of Transport and PlanningSalary: $134,593 - $180,115Occupation: LegalReference: 6530About the RoleThis is a Fixed Term Position for 12 monthsThe Principal Lawyer, Transport Operations is expected to deliver high quality client service and provide high quality advice on a wide range of legal issues with a focus on commercial and operational matters relating to the transport network.Position Outcomes / AccountabilitiesProvide high quality advice on a wide range of legal issues relating to commercial and operational matters.Draft and review a range of legal documentation, including commercial, property, and construction agreements.Establish and maintain strong partnerships with relevant stakeholders to support delivery of the Department’s objectives.Identify and escalate as necessary potential legal risk to the Department.Undertake high level research and analysis of complex legal and policy issues.Supervise and provide mentorship to junior lawyers in the conduct of their matters.Perform other duties and tasks as directed.In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic), other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.Key Selection CriteriaThis role offers a unique opportunity to provide expert legal services on complex, sensitive, and high-impact matters that shape the state's transport landscape.As a key legal advisor, you will independently manage the delivery of high-quality legal advice, addressing complex statutory interpretation and legal drafting challenges. You'll also provide professional supervision to legal staff, assuring the quality and consistency of advice across the team.This role requires accomplished skills in legal advice, drafting, and statutory interpretation, alongside a proven ability to apply critical thinking to resolve intricate issues.
