Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of News to lead our editorial teams in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate newsroom leader with a strategic mindset who can inspire teams, set priorities, and uphold journalistic integrity. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in people leadership within multimedia journalism, a deep understanding of the evolving digital landscape, and the ability to drive impactful news coverage across platforms.
1. Lead, mentor and motivate a diverse team of journalists, editors, camera operators, and producers to foster collaboration and high performance.
2. Drive a long-term newsroom vision, staying ahead of industry trends to maintain a competitive edge.
3. Execute newsroom strategies to align with organisational goals, promoting growth and relevance in multimedia.
4. Collaborate with other departments to unify editorial, marketing, digital, and business objectives.
5. Uphold journalistic integrity and responsible journalism by maintaining ethical standards, quality control, and adherence to industry codes of conduct.
6. Encourage innovative reporting techniques and technologies to broaden news coverage.
7. Manage newsroom budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation for editorial and operational needs.
8. Implement workflows and technologies to boost newsroom efficiency and adaptability.
9. Lead a seamless approach to multiplatform journalism across digital, social, and traditional media.
10. Address challenges proactively to ensure smooth newsroom operations.
11. Use data and analytics to guide impactful editorial decisions.
Qualifications
12. Proven experience in newsroom people leadership and creating a culture of collaboration
13. Demonstrated ability to manage and inspire a diverse team in a high-performance environment.
14. Strategic thinking with the ability to develop and implement long-term newsroom strategies.
15. Strong knowledge of industry standards, journalistic ethics, and compliance requirements.
16. Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and operational resources.
17. Deep understanding of multimedia journalism with a vision for multiplatform content distribution.
18. Experience in implementing newsroom innovation and staying up-to-date with industry trends.
19. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to cross-functional work.
