About the opportunity
The School of Chemistry is currently seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Synthetic/Medicinal Chemistry in the laboratory of Associate Professor Yu Heng Lau. You will be the senior synthetic medicinal chemist on our small molecule drug discovery projects funded by the NHMRC and Cancer Institute NSW.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
o drive a high-impact research program on medicinal chemistry against telomeric cancer targets, including small molecule synthesis, structure-based analogue design, SAR studies, and target engagement assays
o lead a team of junior research students, including laboratory supervision, project design, skills development, and career mentorship
o communicate and support research through writing of manuscripts, grant applications, and conference presentations
o manage ongoing partnerships with academic and industry collaborators
o coordinate laboratory administrative tasks, including equipment maintenance and lab organisation.

o a PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or closely-related discipline

o knowledge in medicinal chemistry and structure-based drug design
o ability to operate and maintain synthetic laboratory equipment
o ability to conduct or learn associated skills such as computational docking and biophysical assays.
