The mine has been operational since the early 1980s and is currently undergoing major development over the next 5 years which will extend the life to 2070 while also opening three new mining areas.
The Operator is looking to increase its production over the coming 3-5 years from 3.0 mtpa ROM to 4.0 mtpa ROM which will be achieved through optimised mine design, targeting new areas of the deposit and striving for best practice productivity and efficiencies.
Mine Site Operation Summary The operation is currently truck constrained with a focus on haulage optimisation to deliver the best outcome over the forward plan. The geological complexity offers many challenges to overcome with modelling, geotechnical design, through seam blasting and high intensity operation within limited pit strike. The operation is primarily owner operated with the only contractors being blast hole drilling, explosive supply and major maintenance shutdowns.
They also own all its primary equipment fleet including Hitachi EX8000-7, Liebherr 9600, 2 x Liebherr 996B, 19 x Komatsu 830E, & 6 x Hitachi EH5000s.Position Responsibilities – Mine Geologist Monitor and assess geotechnical conditions across the mine site to identify potential hazards.Collaborate closely with an external Geotechnical RPEQ to review and implement geotechnical designs and strategies.Generate and maintain accurate short-term geological models to guide day-to-day mining activities.Incorporate the latest drilling, sampling, and survey data to ensure models reflect current site conditions.Support production planning by providing updated geological interpretations and insights.Conduct detailed analysis and reconciliation of coal production against planned targets.Play a pivotal role in the planning, coordination, and execution of exploration programs to expand resources and reserves.Ensure exploration activities align with mine plans and operational objectives.Oversee the collection, validation, and management of geological data from drilling, sampling, and field observations.Position Requirements A Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field.Proven experience in exploration planning and JORC resource modelling, with a strong understanding of industry standards.Excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders effectively.Leadership experience, with a track record of managing and mentoring small teams.Proficiency in geological software and data management systems.A safety-first mindset and commitment to maintaining a positive workplace culture. This role will FIFO ex-Brisbane on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster.
