This is embodied in the school motto, "Nothing without Effort, Nothing but the Best."About The RoleAs Head of Department (Secondary) LOTE, you will:Strategic Leadership Drive the implementation of faculty improvement strategies, including the promotion of LOTE subjects and innovative approaches to language acquisition.Lead and coordinate whole-school cultural and language events, ensuring they reflect the school's ethos of community engagement and global citizenship.Collaborate with the senior leadership team to align faculty operations with the school's broader strategic goals and priorities.Curriculum and AssessmentProvide instructional leadership in pedagogy, curriculum planning, assessment, and performance, with a focus on inclusive and differentiated practices.Oversee the delivery of all LOTE subjects across Years 7-10 and Senior LOTE subjects, ensuring high-quality language learning experiences.Ensure curriculum inclusivity for all students, including those on ICPs (Individual Curriculum Plans).Lead the quality assurance of curriculum plans and teacher planning to ensure alignment with the Australian Curriculum (AC), QCE, and learning pathway plans.Facilitate the moderation and calibration of assessments to maintain consistent and rigorous standards across the faculty.Building Professional CapacityEnhance the capacity of faculty teachers through professional development, collegial observations, and feedback.Lead the Setting Professional Goals (SPG) process for faculty staff, identifying priority areas for growth and support.Supervise and support teachers transitioning from provisional to full registration and oversee additional responsibilities of senior/experienced senior teachers.Provide instructional support, foster collaboration, and model high-impact teaching strategies.Facilitate professional learning opportunities aligned with curriculum trends and school priorities.Student and Staff SupportSupport staff with behaviour management and respond to curriculum-related referrals.Lead the faculty's commitment to the school-wide learning policy, ensuring its consistent application across classrooms.Coordinate continuity of curriculum delivery for students during staff absences, ensuring minimal disruption to learning.Data and ReportingAnalyse and review subject-specific data to inform strategic planning, improvement, and targeted interventions.Lead data conversations with faculty teachers in line with the school's data plan.Manage QCAA senior data uploads and student work submissions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.How To ApplyPlease attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history);A 2-pg written statement in response to the attached role description.We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.Salary rate shown is reflective of full-time (1.0 FTE).The Department of Education is a family inclusive workplace.
