The role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Domestic Violence Practitioner to join our team on a full-time basis. In this role, you will be providing intake, counselling, court support and group work to women who have experienced domestic and family violence within the Sunshine Coast Regional Domestic and Family Violence Service (SCRDFVS). This involves partnering with them using a trauma informed, strengths based and solution focused approach to assist in increasing their safety and recovery.
Key Duties:
1. Making initial contact with women who have experienced domestic and family violence following receipt of a referral. Completing client intakes, including initial risk assessment/s and safety planning.
2. Provision of domestic violence counselling, psychoeducation, and group work.
3. Supporting women attending court in relation to a domestic violence order.
4. Supporting women to identify their goals and immediate needs in order to assist them to increase their safety, agency, and autonomy.
5. Working within the Trauma Informed and Brief Solution Focused frameworks: this may include, but is not limited to, advocating on behalf of the client, making additional referrals, providing psychoeducation and counselling, as well as other practical assistance.
6. Participating in meetings and liaising with other local stakeholders, e.g., Child Safety, Corrections, Housing and QPS.
Skills and Experience:
7. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution (including eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, PACFA or ACA).
8. Well-developed understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act and Family Law Act, as well as the issues and the impacts on families engaged in these systems
9. Demonstrated articulation of a well-developed practice framework for domestic and family violence
10. Experience in intake, risk assessment and safety planning, court support, psychoeducation, referral pathways, DVO assistance and group work
11. Well-developed written work including report writing, case notes, data collection, data entry and computer literacy skills
12. Highly effective communication, with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to advocate for our clients’ needs with other statutory organisations/ departments.
13. Have a high degree of professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
14. Ability to support and work with diverse families with complex needs.
Essential requirements for the role:
15. Relevant Tertiary qualifications are essential
16. Have a current Blue Card – or be eligible to apply.
17. Have a current driver’s licence.
18. Provide a current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check or successfully pass one.
19. Have working rights in Australia.
