This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and leadership focused Project Manager (PM) to join Australia’s Defence Prime contractor to deliver critical programs which support in-service vessels as part of Austal’s sustainment operations. Based in Cairns, you will report to the Sustainment Manager and ship managers to manage all activities which ensure assigned Defence vessel programs are delivered on time and budget for all in service support requirements to our valued clients.
About the Role
As part of Austal’s sustainment program, this role is responsible for managing and coordinating all activities required to ensure Defence vessel programs for in service support and maintenance are delivered on time and with excellence in contract performance. The PM will establish a multi-disciplined team and drive performance through functional enablement to deliver on project objectives. The PM will ensure that appropriate project management methodology and control is deployed whilst providing leadership to the project team to ensure deliverables are achieved safely and to the required quality standards.
Plan, coordinate and sequence all support activities collaboratively across multi-disciplined teams,
Manage scope and interdependencies effectively across delivery streams helping define processes for change management to meet contractual outcomes,
Plan for material sourcing to deliver system and vessel support outcomes within agreed schedules whilst maintaining performance against contracts,
Lead diverse teams across multiple disciplines whilst ensuring high levels of collaboration and information flow effectively in a dynamic environment, and
Establish, develop, and manage multiple stakeholder relationships effectively supported by superior communication skills to inform clients and stakeholders of status, issues, impacts, status, and
Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:
Essential
5+ years demonstrable Project Management experience in large, complex programs
5+ years demonstrable experience working in performance-based
Hold a Construction safety induction (white card)
Desirable
Experience in naval or commercial vessel sustainment management
Project Management certification through a professional PM body
Demonstrable experience with Ship Management
Degree or trade qualification in a recognised maritime discipline
Candidates with similar experience from other sectors are encouraged to apply. While industry experience is desirable, it is not essential. The PM would be supported by an experienced Ship Manager to provide comprehensive coaching, guidance, and on-the-job training.
