The roleVitonga Farms is seeking an experienced Senior Agriculture Technician to join our growing Agricultural team in Moree, NSW. As a full-time position, you will play a key role in supporting our Agronomist and Research team.Tasks and duties:Manage soil sampling and analyse soil types to determine the best use for each.Help the irrigation supervisor use soil moisture probes and maintain proper moisture levels.Assist in developing new techniques for planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and processing to improve land use.Perform acid and Brix tests to determine the best harvesting conditions and create strategies to reach ideal levels if needed.Advise the harvest supervisor on which orchard to harvest next based on test results.Identify harmful pests, insects, fungi, and weeds that threaten crops.Support the agronomist in identifying nutrient deficiencies and meeting crop needs.Organize and manage the use of chemicals and fertilizers for pest control and nutrient needs.Monitor weather, temperature, and heat units to understand their effect on fruit growth.Use software and mobile technology to take pictures of fruit and help the agronomist track growth.What we're looking for:Batchelor Degree, AQF Advanced Diploma, in an Agricultural or relevant field.Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an agricultural field.Ability to supervise and manage the workforce to ensure smooth farm operations.Perform regular maintenance of fruit orchards, including pruning and upkeep.Keep detailed records of fruit growth, including measurements and progress tracking.Monitor trees, fruit for pests, diseases and weeds and implement necessary control measures to improve orchard health.Provide advice on pesticides treatments & application after consulting with the entomologist.Develop and manage irrigation schedules for all farm areas to ensure optimal water usage.Oversee the harvesting process to maximize efficiency and quality.
