What will you do?
The Finance Officer will report to the Assistant Director and work closely with the Director of the team.
The role's primary task is to undertake management accounting and accounting functions supporting the administered capital works program for the Territories Division.
The Finance Officer's key duty is to provide a high level of support to the Assistant Director, Director and Branch Head through management of the administered capital works program for the Division.
This includes:
1. Developing and managing the administered capital budget for the division;
2. Undertake accounting functions such as accruals, journals and movements of funds (as required) in the administered capital space;
3. Manage the administered capital budget inbox;
4. Undertake the Work In Progress (WIP) review on a monthly basis, including reviewing capitalisation process for the division;
5. Provide considered advice and information to others within the division on the processes surrounding the administered capital budget process;
6. Liaise with divisional staff on the forecasting of their capital works projects;
7. Manage the administered operational budget for the section;
8. Manage the departmental operational budget for the section;
9. Prepare monthly financial reports for the Director, Executive and Boards, including considerations of strategic and forward planning analysis;
10. Create and maintain a contracts register for the section; and
11. Co-ordinate input into the end of financial year on an as needed basis;
Other core duties include:
12. Liaising with staff and senior executive officers across the Branch, the Division, the Department and other Commonwealth agencies on relevant cross cutting issues;
13. Foster and maintain effective working relationships to promote partnerships and seamless financial services; and
14. Preparing and contributing to other reporting or briefing requirements on an ad-hoc basis.
Who are they looking for?
Ideally, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in management accounting, reporting, forecasting, budgeting and financial accounting in the government sector, particularly within the administered capital space.
Previous experience in a similar role, with an understanding of the operational environment in a Federal Government context will be an advantage.
