About the Role We're looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our Sydney team on a 6-month full-time contract. This newly created role is crucial for stabilizing our payroll function, ensuring seamless end-to-end payroll processing across Australia and New Zealand. We are Hybrid - The HR team comes into the office in Pyrmont on Mondays and Wednesdays .
You'll be joining a collaborative and supportive HR team that works closely with Shared Services in Australia and the Philippines. We believe in teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement to ensure smooth and efficient payroll operations.
What You'll Do Process and manage fortnightly payroll for over 1,000 employees in Australia and New Zealand. Ensure compliance - Manage STP reporting, payroll tax, superannuation, and year-end reconciliations. Collaborate with HR and finance teams to align payroll with company policies and regulations. Oversee payroll system configurations - Ensure accurate processing of modern awards and salary increases. Manage payroll reporting and audits, assisting with compliance reviews and external audits. Optimize payroll processes - Contribute to process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency. Administer novated leases and salary packaging arrangements. Handle escalations and employee queries to ensure a smooth payroll experience. What We're Looking For 5+ years of payroll experience in a complex, fast-paced environment. Expert knowledge of Australian & New Zealand payroll legislation, including taxation, superannuation, and STP reporting. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Ability to troubleshoot payroll issues independently. Advanced Excel skills - Experience with Google Sheets is a plus. Effective stakeholder engagement skills - Ability to collaborate with HR, finance, and external providers. Tertiary qualifications in payroll or certifications from TAPs or APA (preferred but not mandatory). Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven - Someone who takes ownership and gets the job done. Nice to Have: Experience in payroll system optimization and automation. Exposure to payroll transformation projects. Familiarity with Payroll Metrics, Cornerstone, or similar systems.
