THE OPPORTUNITY Bowls Australia (BA) aims to be the leading nation at the World Bowls Championships and Commonwealth Games. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the BA High Performance (HP) Team on a Contractor basis to develop and support the next generation of athletes. We are seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified Coaches to join the BA HP Program, who share our philosophy of person first, player second and commitment to excellence. The successful person will develop and work with athletes in South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory to prepare them for success as they progress through the pathway. They will work collaboratively with Bowls Australia and the relevant STA to ensure their work compliments the national and state direction of the sport including contributing to the successful implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the BA High Performance and Performance Pathways Strategy. THE DETAIL The primary responsibilities of the Contractor will be to: 1. Coach identified athletes This will involve: Providing direct coaching support Supporting athletes with training programs and calendar management Helping athletes to establish an optimal daily training environment Tracking and monitoring athlete progress Ensuring athletes are aware of and can access available support services to support their ongoing development. Reporting on athlete progress, development and engagement. 2. Identify and nurture prospective athletes This will involve: Promoting the talent pathway and highlighting talent identification opportunities for under 18 and under 25 athletes to the athletes and their parents/guardians. Promoting the talent pathway and highlighting talent identification opportunities for Para athletes to develop and progress through. Identifying talent, monitoring their progress, collating information and producing reports. Proactively communicating to the National Coach, National Assistant Coach, HP/PP Manager talent identification of potential Australian representatives from Performance Pathways, under 18 and Parasport pool of athletes. Delivery of opportunities to support talent development where required. 3. Deliver Athlete Recruitment & Development Initiatives This will involve: Assessing and determining the most effective way to develop Junior and Para players in each STA Working with STA’s and their key personnel to assist with the recruitment, development and retention of junior and para athletes to support State Teams and their development Support the delivery of BA/STA Come & Try Days and other similar initiatives to assist with recruitment campaigns and wider outcomes of the BA HP Strategy and Performance Pathways Strategy. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Successful applicants will have: Essential: Thorough understanding and knowledge of bowls at a state level. (International is desirable) Minimum coaching accreditation of Club Coach. Proven experience developing athletes. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and lead programs Willing to learn performance analysis programs and tools. Technology skills - computer: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Skype. Video camera and video editing skills are also desirable. Current WWC check Outstanding communication skills (both verbal and written) to liaise with a wide range of people including athletes, service providers, management etc. Well-developed interpersonal skills. Demonstrated networking skills to develop, maintain and improve partnerships, networks and client relationships. Self-motivated, able to work independently and as an active participant in a team. Energetic, enthusiastic, and possess an ability to adapt to different demands, e.g. workload, varied hours of work, tight deadlines. CONTRACT TERMS The contract will commence from 1st May 2025 until 30th April 2026. The location is flexible. Interstate and potential international travel will be required.
