Branch The Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal (Tribunal) is responsible for independently setting and advising on remuneration for Members of Parliament (MPs), local councillors and executives in the Victorian public sector. The Tribunal was established under the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal and Improving Parliamentary Standards Act 2019 and consists of up to three part-time Members led by a Chair. The Minister responsible for the Tribunal is the Minister for Finance, but the Tribunal is not subject to the direction of any person, including the Minister. About the role The Director, Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal leads the secretariat that supports the Chair and Members of the Tribunal as well as the Compliance Officers to deliver their responsibilities. The Director leads a small, high-calibre team to undertake rigorous and authoritative analysis and advice to the Tribunal on matters relating to remuneration of MPs, public sector executives, and local government councillors. The Director also supports the Chair in briefing the Minister on the Tribunal's work. The Director is also part of the leadership team of DTF's Economic Group, which supports the Government in growing employment, material living standards and economic activity. The Director reports to the Executive Director, Economic Group on corporate matters. Key accountabilities This position has the following responsibilities: Provide authoritative, succinct, strategic, relevant and timely advice to Tribunal Members and the Compliance Officers to support them in performing their independent functions. Lead the Secretariat in managing and continuously improving processes relating to the Tribunal's legislative obligations (including providing advice on requests to pay executives above their relevant band,, comprehensive and annual adjustment determinations, and any reviews as requested by the responsible Minister). Lead and continuously improve processes for appeal by current and/or former Members of Parliament to the Compliance Officers. Initiate, manage and maintain close liaison and strategic and influential relationships with key stakeholders, including other areas withing DTF and other relevant government and non-government organisations. Implement actions to build team and group capability and culture; and Identify, implement and lead process improvements to the grow the quality and efficiency of the team's work. About you We are seeking applications from candidates with demonstrable experience in: Proven experience in managing a portfolio of responsibilities and strategic projects to achieve organisational goals; Strong communication and influencing skills, including the ability to build consensus and foster effective working relationships with senior stakeholders; Ability to provide authoritative, robust and evidence-based advice of high analytical quality; and Proven leadership abilities, including to build a positive team culture, align teams with organisational values and goals, and effectively manage team members. Experience and qualifications A strong background in providing advice to senior decision-makers; Experience in implementing strategic initiatives in a complex policy, economic and financial environment to achieve outcomes consistent with government policy and/or business objectives; Experience leading a team and working as part of a senior management group; and Degree qualified in a relevant discipline or field.
