Overview
Job Summary: Consider joining our Metal Exchange Cast Product as a Furnace Operator. This position is Dayshift from 7 PM-7 AM. As a Furnace operator, you have a crucial role in operating the furnace, ensuring the proper functioning of the furnace equipment, maintaining optimal operating conditions, and producing high-quality products.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Loads scrap, prime, and other metals into the furnace to achieve proper molten aluminum alloy utilizing appropriate mobile equipment.
* Stirs the metal bath with a steel rake attached to a forklift.
* Removes dross by-product from the molten bath with a steel rake attached to a forklift in a skimming action, minimizing the amount of aluminum removed and maximizing the amount of dross removed.
* Loads dross pots into dross snuffers/coolers using a forklift. Empties dross pots when cooled.
* Draws samples using a ladle. After analysis, manually adds appropriate alloying materials and re-stirs the molten bath.
* Performs preventive maintenance on all mobile equipment used in the department at the start of each shift.
* Removes impurity gases from the bath utilizing argon or nitrogen SF6.
* Cleans pipes with compressed air after finishing the degassing operation.
* Assists with cast run-up and shutdown.
* Stages the next charge by bringing prime, scrap, and dealer scrap into the charging area.
* Keeps the furnace area free from debris, putting scrap in appropriate places.
Qualifications
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Education
* High school diploma or general education degree (GED); several years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
* Prior forklift experience.
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to write simple reports and correspondence.
* Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one situations to foremen, other crew members, and supervisors.
* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
* Must possess a valid Fork Lift Operator’s license and have prior forklift experience.
* Must be able to operate an overhead crane.
* Must complete Molten Metal training.
