The role
The Payroll Manager will lead a team of 4 payroll officers to ensure accurate and timely payroll of circa 850 employees is processed. This role primarily focuses on Australian payroll for multiple employing entities and payroll cycles, within the broader ANZ region. A key responsibility is driving process improvements, analyzing external vendors, and collaborating with project teams to implement a more efficient time and attendance system.
The Payroll Manager will play a vital role in optimizing payroll operations while ensuring compliance and accuracy across various payroll processes are adhered to. This opportunity will lead a team of 4 payroll officers and will not be responsible for processing payroll.
Key Focus:
* Oversee the delivery of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll for 9 companies in ANZ with a team of 4.
* Develop and maintain a payroll risk and crisis management strategy.
* Advise managers and staff on payroll software, pay, legislation, award changes, and company policies.
* Handle basic payroll file updates.
* Assist HR and Finance teams with payroll reports and data analysis as needed.
* Document and review payroll procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
* Coordinate PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation, and workers’ compensation payments.
* Ensure accurate termination, redundancy, and leave calculations and reporting.
* Interpret NES, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements to ensure compliance.
* Prepare payroll payments, including superannuation and payroll tax.
* Identify and implement process improvements, update payroll templates, and conduct audits.
* Manage projects, liaise with vendors, consultants, and government bodies.
* Lead and support the payroll team to ensure excellent customer service for employees.
* Identify training needs, manage performance, and set goals for the team.
About you
* bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or equivalent qualification is required.
* minimum of 4+ years of experience in a medium to large-sized organization, with multiple payroll cycles and ABNs, acquisitions and mergers in addition to at least 5 years’ experience as a Payroll Specialist.
* Proficiency in various payroll systems, with a preference for experience in Meridian, as well as a solid understanding of Workday.
* Experience with timekeeping systems, preferably Mitre Finch, is desirable.
* Familiarity with Employee Self-Service (ESS) systems, particularly Micropay ESP, is advantageous, though not mandatory.
* A proactive approach to enhancing payroll processes and systems is essential.
