About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Solicitor to provide legal advisory services and advocacy to support the Commissioner of State Revenue in matters arising from Acts administered by the State Revenue Office.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide legal advisory services and advocacy to support the Commissioner of State Revenue in matters arising from Acts administered by the State Revenue Office.
* Utilise statutory interpretation, advisory and litigation skills in an in-house government solicitor role.
* Manage your own litigation and advice case-load with supportive legal supervision.
* Undertake legal research, interpret and apply legislation in a wide variety of matters.
* Prepare and conduct moderately complex cases for litigation at the Victorian and Civil Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and the Courts.
* Brief and instruct Counsel at interlocutory proceedings and substantive hearings.
* Communicate directly with internal stakeholders, customers and their legal representatives.
* Provide timely legal advice to the Commissioner and his delegates.
Requirements
* You will have been admitted as an Australian Lawyer, with a minimum of 2 years' post-admission experience as an Australian lawyer in the public or private sector.
* Preferably with litigation experience in the tribunal and courts and eligibility to hold an unrestricted practicing certificate.
* Sound legal research and analytical skills, and the ability to correctly identify key legal issues independently.
* Ideally experience instructing at contested hearings in the courts and/or a Tribunal setting.
* Demonstrated ability to provide quality written work in a timely manner, and proven legal case portfolio management skills.
* Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders.
* Strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to work productively in a hybrid legal environment.
