Day work (with on-call) work pattern, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Employer visa sponsorship and support for families for overseas applicants The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers services in the major Orthopaedic sub-specialty areas (with the exception of spinal surgery) and there would be regular opportunities for exposure to those areas of interest to the successful candidate. Depending upon the qualifications and interest of the incumbent, there may also be the opportunity to be involved with other teaching and research activities. The Orthopaedic Department is staffed by > 10 Orthopaedic Surgical Consultants, in a mix of Staff Specialist and Visiting Medical Practitioner roles. Consultant staff areas of expertise which can accommodate Fellow exposure includes advanced upper limb surgery, lower limb arthroplasty including anterior approach hip arthroplasty, robotic assisted knee arthroplasty, ankle arthroplasty. This role has been established to fulfil several targeted activities aimed to improve the delivery of timely surgical services to trauma patients and assist in the coordination and training of surgical Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) and Registrars. It is ideally suited to a surgeon who has recently been awarded Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery or will do so prior to the commencement of employment. The Orthopaedic General and Trauma Surgery Fellow will be a member of Surgical Services, and the role will involve a mix of four key objectives: The undertaking of approved Orthopaedic surgical in-patient and out-patient services, Participation in consultant after-hours rosters, Provision of leadership and mentoring for junior staff including surgical RMOs and registrars, Assisting with quality improvement, audit and service improvement within Surgical Services. Further details: The Fellow will have access to independent trauma operating sessions, with most sessions concurrent with an existing consultant operating session in an adjacent theatre, The Fellow will have outpatient clinic sessions, with a trauma review focus and with additional consultant support.
