Purpose
The Operations Manager oversees operational activities of the General Works unit of the organisation. The duties include hiring of employees, managing quality assurance programs, and the training of employees. The role is responsible for ensuring the quality of general works projects meet or exceed client expectations. The role requires excellent leadership skills, social skills, and knowledge of actively listening. Other vital qualities of the Operations Manager are the understanding of building business finances, supply chain management, workflow, capacity management, and staffing.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Responsible for General Works unit of Commerce Building Services.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and build long-term relationships with them.
* Ensure all general works operations are carried on in an appropriate, cost-effective way.
* Improve operational management systems, processes, and best practices.
* Manage performance of General Works department leads.
* Guide and mentor department leads to assist with their development.
* Oversee procurement and cost-efficient purchase arrangements.
* Help the organisation’s processes remain legally compliant.
* Formulate strategic and operational objectives.
* Examine financial data and use them to improve profitability.
* Manage general works budgets and forecasts.
* Oversee quality controls and monitor production KPIs.
* Work with the Operations Manager and General Manager to achieve strategic goals.
* Work with the leadership team to achieve operational goals.
* Recruit, train, and supervise staff, working with other managers.
* Find ways to increase the quality of customer service.
About you
* 5+ years' experience in a similar leadership role in the insurance building industry.
* Tertiary qualification in Building, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or another relevant discipline.
* Current valid driving licence.
