Purpose
* Reporting to the EM Financial Controller, this role is responsible for managing accounting, financial and commercial support to the Australian business for Generation, Wholesale and Support Functions.
* The role encompasses a global understanding of drivers of actual performance, including a deep understanding of the energy market and its effect on local operations. Additionally, it includes financial management and support for development and construction projects both internally generated and acquired through M&A activity.
* The role is also responsible for the management and oversight of the PHA Accounts Payable function.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the financial function of Generation, Wholesale and the Support Functions including:
* Overseeing the preparation and presentation of the financial & management reporting of the Generation & Wholesale Business and Support Functions, including analysis of variations to budget and forecast and links to business unit key performance indicators.
* Overseeing the preparation and presentation of budgets and forecasts including collection and application of underlying assumptions and generation of profit initiatives.
* Evaluate and quantify the effect of commercial and operational issues on the financial results.
* Understand and apply Australian Energy Regulations as they apply to the financial performance of operating assets including AEMO pricing application and metering requirements.
* In depth knowledge of key contracts impacting the business including effects on financial position and performance, as well as budgets and forecasts.
* Promote financial and commercial awareness across the Australian business unit, and provide value adding advice.
* A deep understanding of the transfer pricing mechanics between PHA generation and retail and how this impacts the financial results of both units (wholesale/retail margin).
* Attendance at the monthly ETC meetings as a subject matter expert.
* The accounts payable function of the Australian business.
Provide accounting and compliance support to Generation, Wholesale and the Support Functions including:
* Preparation, consolidation, analysis and reporting of the Generation, Wholesale and Support Function revenue and costs for the annual budget and forecasts.
* Reporting of the Generation, Wholesale and Support Function monthly revenue analysis and in month flash reporting.
* Management of the month-end process including full understanding of the process and requirements, preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, monthly accruals and prepayment listings and delivering accurate and timely outcomes.
* Accounting for inventory movements in adherence with Inventory accounting policy.
* Responsible for monthly management account variance analysis (Operational and Overhead).
* Exposure to electricity market pricing and contribution to periodic revenue reporting and analysis.
* Ensuring the appropriate application of existing accounting policies and procedures, and, drawing upon the expertise of Financial Services, initiate and coordinate the preparation of new accounting policies, procedures and position papers in line with current accounting standards as required.
* Manage compliance obligations in relation to the financial aspects of environmental products and their administration including maintenance of government and other registries as applicable.
* Manage invoicing, settlement, and other requirements of the Renewable Energy Certificate Purchase Agreements (RECPA's), Purchase Pricing Agreements (PPA's), and energy swap contracts.
* Processing of monthly data files, creation of revenue invoices and data entry into SA for Operating Assets.
* Manage weekly and ad hoc settlements through Austraclear.
* Preparation of Ad hoc Revenue invoices as required.
* Manage the end of month Bank Reconciliations.
* Completion of annual reporting obligations regarding environmental products including annual audit requirements as applicable.
* Assist with Australian Business Unit profit/capital raising initiatives as required.
Provide Generation, Wholesale and Support Function inputs to a number of key finance projects which occur during the year including:
* Monthly consolidated Management/Board reporting.
* Assistance with SASAC reporting as requested by the group reporting team.
* Consolidated Budget and forecasting.
* Monthly, quarterly and annual tax compliance commitments.
* Business Plans and Corporate Valuations.
* Identify any reporting or process improvements which could assist in the financial management of Generation, Wholesale and Support Functions in line with strategic objectives.
* Other duties as directed by the EM Financial Controller.
* Ensure that the Company's compliance obligations are actively maintained, managed and kept up to date with particular focus on cyber security and data protection and the compliance obligations allocated to the position title as identified in the Company's Register of Compliance Obligations.
Knowledge, experience (including qualification) and skill
Knowledge and experience:
* Practical experience with management reporting, operational support & analysis, statutory reporting, internal control, multi company structures, foreign currency, and audits.
* Practical experience and sound knowledge of integrated accounting systems (SAP BAiO desirable); advanced Excel; MS Office suite; accounting processes.
* Good understanding of Accounting Standards.
* Proven record in a finance function and pro-actively contributing within a medium finance team or with the appropriate experience from a chartered firm.
