We are currently seeking an experienced Information Lawyer to join our team on a contract basis.
As an Information Lawyer, you will play a key role in advising on the application of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and ensuring legal compliance in the release and protection of government information.Key Responsibilities: Provide legal advice on the interpretation and application of the GIPA Act.
Assist in the review and preparation of GIPA requests, ensuring compliance with the Act's provisions.
Assess and advise on exemptions and public interest considerations regarding the release of information.
Represent the organisation in legal proceedings, appeals, and tribunals concerning GIPA matters.
Prepare legal documents, including reports, opinions, and responses to requests for information.
Work closely with internal stakeholders to guide decision-making around public access to information.
About you A law degree and admission to practice as a lawyer.
Strong knowledge of the GIPA Act and relevant privacy laws.
Excellent analytical, research, and drafting skills.
Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Prior experience in a public sector legal role is highly desirable.
