Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business.
The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects.

Job Description Mechanical Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will manage, review, coordinate and provide key technical input during site due diligence, detailed design and/or construction administration phases of multiple datacenter projects on a global scale and be part of the core team launching the Microsoft Cloud infrastructure worldwide.
Responsible for leading and directing consultants in the design and coordination of the mechanical systems, associated controls and overall topology aligning with Microsoft and site-specific requirements.
Responsibilities Subject Matter Expert: Providing key input to other organizations and internal stakeholders.
This position requires a detailed understanding of datacenter HVAC systems, cooling equipment selection, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, fuel systems, Building Automation System (BAS) controls and related operational experience.
Design Decisions: Responsible for design decisions related to data centre projects including new construction, expansions, retrofits, upgrades, and standards upgrades globally.
Critical Assessments: Assess designs and decisions and support in applying the required standards and country-specific regulations to make the best design choices.
Engagement: Engage and manage external design consultants, run design workshops to ensure they deliver a design to meet the requirements of the Basis of Design (BOD).
Collaboration: Work with Global Technical Excellence team, Global Strategy team, and DC Operations teams to develop datacenter designs from Basis of Design (BOD) to Issue For Construction (IFC) and through the Construction Administration phase of the datacenter until handover for new project build outs.
Travel Requirements: Some travel to sites for "Factory Witness Testing", consultant/vendor interaction in the design process, as well as for final commissioning of the installed systems.
Customer Liaison: Collaborate with internal and external customers, lead the direction of the mechanical designs and oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete datacenter design solutions aligned with scopes, schedule, and budgets of the projects.
Request Support: Support requests, liaise with customers to develop specific project design requirements, and collaborate with other Microsoft engineering teams and Operations providing support as and when required for new and existing data centres.
