ABOUT THE ORGANISATION: This Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services provides a broad range of primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the region; including GPs, Nursing; Aboriginal Health Workers; Allied Health professionals; Maternal and Child Health; and visiting Medical Specialists. This organisation also provides a range of family-focused Mental Health and Wellbeing services, as the lead agent for both headspace Mt Isa and the Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service. The General Practitioner will provide direct GP services to a growing client group and will assist with leadership based on the organisation model of care. The General Practitioner will also play a pivotal role in: Clinical Governance – the participation and continuous improvement of high quality service delivery models Service Development – to support organisational growth and the development of the medical workforce across the North West Queensland region, including supervision and support for GP Registrars and Medical students if certified/qualified Medicare Income – provide sound and high level clinical care and increasing Medicare Income e.g., 715, 721 and 723 Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of the health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a strong commitment to improving health outcomes Acknowledge ‘Traditional Owner’ groups from the region of the AMS footprint Demonstrated understanding of Clinical Governance Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care and primary health care strategies, including appropriate investigations, treatment and referral Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team of health professionals (e.g. Medical Receptionist, Aboriginal Health Workers, Nurses, Doctors) to work towards identified outcomes Sound understanding of the processes involved in embedding continuous quality improvement into clinic practice through the implementation of regular auditing Demonstrated interpersonal skills that enable you to effectively communicate and liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders, clients and staff to provide a quality client service and maintain positive working relationships Knowledge and demonstrated experience in the Medicare Benefits Schedule and its application in the ATSICCHS setting Demonstrated competence in use of Business Technology, internet and desktop applications A sound understanding of workplace health and safety and an ability to implement safe work practices in the work environment Qualifications / Experience MBBS, unconditional registration with the Medical Board of Australia Specialist GP Recognition / Vocational Registration Eligible to obtain provider number(s) in the required location Cultural Awareness Training (preferred) Practical Requirements Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential Satisfactory police check – no serious Criminal/Court record Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card Willingness to work flexible hours as required, including the requirement to travel, work and stay overnight for up to several days at a time in remote areas.
