Our experienced team of attorneys provides highly-specialised intellectual property (IP) services and advice to enable our clients to secure and defend their brands and technologies.We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic Trainee Patent Attorney to join our Engineering team in Adelaide and assist our specialist Engineering patent attorneys to protect our clients’ innovations. The RoleYou will use your technical expertise and growing experience to assist our experienced Engineering patent attorneys with their local and international client work. Working under the supervision of several experienced patent attorneys, you will gain skills in client management, interviewing inventors, conducting patent searches, drafting technical descriptions of inventions and industrial designs, and preparing correspondence relating to protection of patents and designs. You will be working on subject matter which could include automotive elements, heavy vehicles, advanced manufacturing, defence, building and construction, and renewable energy technology. As a trainee, you will be expected to undertake studies in intellectual property law and comprehensive on-the job-training to become registered as a Patent Attorney (and as a Trade Marks Attorney).You will be encouraged to participate in networking events, seminars and other activities aimed towards growing your practice.What We Are SeekingTo be successful you will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Engineering, specialising in mechanical, mechatronics, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or robotics. Other engineering disciplines that have a significant mechanical or mechatronic component will also be considered. Ideally, you will have a high level of technical expertise, previous industry or practical experience in your field of study and be a lateral thinker who is able to critically analyse complex material and demonstrate high attention to detail. You will be committed to your own career development, to ongoing learning, to studying and to becoming registered as a patent attorney.Fluency in English, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, are critical to engage confidently with your team members and our clients; to understand and communicate technical concepts accurately; to assess incoming reports and correspondence issued by government patent and design offices; and to properly draft patent specifications.
