Orange is a large regional city with a population of over 40,000 located in Central West NSW in an area renowned for its food production and in the heart of wine country. Reporting to the General Manager based in Brisbane, this position will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the laboratory.This is an ideal opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic, technically minded individual who has a hands-on approach to Laboratory Management to further develop their career in this field. This role offers an opportunity to gain exposure to a wide and varied range of management disciplines in a multi-faceted Geochemistry laboratory, including staff management, financial management and direct interaction with clients. The Orange laboratory is part of the global network of ALS Geochemistry laboratories and is well supported by the Australian Management team, and the Global Specialist teams.ALS is currently experiencing significant growth and is actively developing succession plans for future Laboratory Management roles by seeking to engage and develop dynamic and motivated people. Over time, the successful candidate will be considered for future suitable opportunities within the business nationally and will be encouraged to develop their leadership toolkit by working in different locations and environments.The day to dayDaily management of the entire operationDeveloping and fostering client relationsOverall quality, safety and site complianceOptimising turnaround time for samplesFinancial responsibilitiesStaff recruitment, retention and managementIdentify regional trends and assist in strategic planningLeading and motivating teams in a fast-paced lab environmentThe Essentials:Strong written and verbal communication skillsSound analytical skills for reviewing and approving results and responding to client queries.Strong technical ability regarding laboratory equipment, including fire assay, AAS and ICP-AES experience.Demonstrated well-developed, hands-on people management skills with a strong desire to develop, mentor and motivate people will be essential.Formal qualification in chemistry, geology or related science discipline, or extensive experience in managing a busy Geochemistry laboratory.Postgraduate studies in Business Administration would be an advantage, but not essential.Quality control experienceStrong safety culture and commitment to upholding high safety standards on siteThis is an excellent opportunity to develop and demonstrate your skills in managing a high throughput, dynamic laboratory.Working at ALSOur people drive our success at ALS.We are a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
