About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and self-motivated Registered Nurses, your focus will be to ensure the provision of high-quality care to our residents to meet their daily care needs by demonstrating professional and collaborative practice and providing supervision and direction to Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) whilst ensuring they are empowered to do as much as they can for themselves.
1. Deliver consistently high standards of nursing care to meet individual residents’ needs, the agreed care plan, professional standards and VMCH policies and procedures
2. Maintain awareness of the holistic needs of residents and an understanding of the ageing process including supporting resident independence; individual choice and decision making; privacy; emotional support and medical needs
3. Contribute to planning appropriate care for residents, using a range of skills and data gathering techniques including observation, interview, physical examination and measurement
4. Accurately collect, interpret, utilise, monitor and report information regarding the health and functional status of people receiving care to achieve identified health outcomes
5. Develop, monitor and maintain a plan of care in collaboration with the other RN’s, health care team and significant others, or as directed by the Registered Nurse in charge or Residential Services Manager
6. Critically evaluate the residents’ care needs and document on a continuous improvement and action planning basis
7. Recognise when the physical or mental health of a person receiving care is deteriorating and report, document and seek appropriate assistance
8. Prepare and deliver written and verbal care reports such as clinical handover
9. Act at all times to protect the rights of residents, including confidentiality, privacy, individual choice and decision- making
10. Promote a person centred approach to care across the organisation
11. Respond promptly and appropriately to the needs of residents, representatives and colleagues;
12. Prioritise daily responsibilities taking into account resident needs and manage time effectively
13. Actively participate in the implementation of Aged Care Accreditation Standards to enhance resident choice and quality of living
14. Liaise with residents’ family members and collect information or issues which impact the resident’s emotional or physical health;
About you
The successful incumbent will need to be flexible and available to work afternoon and evening shifts.
15. Current AHPRA registration as Registered Nurse, with relevant qualification and experience.
16. Experience assessing Aged Care Residents and formulating Care Plans
17. Understanding and working knowledge of Commonwealth, State and / or Territory legislation and nursing practices.
18. An understanding of and ability to ensure compliance with residential Aged Care Standards, ACFI requirements, Occupational Health and Safety, food safety and other professional legislative requirements
19. Experience leading, supporting and supervising staff and promoting a team approach in the workplace (Level 2 or 3 RN)
20. First Aid and CPR Certificate
21. Ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively and compassionately with residents, families, employees and volunteers
22. Interpersonal skills, patience, common sense and a strong ethos of client service
23. Strong initiative and ability to work without supervision and be self-motivated
24. Proficiency utilising information technology, with well-developed computer skills including MS Office
