Analysis & Reporting (Mining, Resources & Energy) Full time Competitive salary package, with bonus program The world's biggest challenge needs you, here.Big challenges require big solutions.And the transition to a net-zero world is about as big as it gets.Working at Shell Energy - one of Australia's leading energy retailers - puts you at the heart of that endeavour.Lead the change, from the frontlineBased in Melbourne, the Senior Project & Investment Analyst will be responsible for all financial modelling, commercial analysis and the development of investment cases required to drive key business decisions and development outcomes across a portfolio of large-scale renewables projects.This is a key role within the Strategy and Portfolio Development team, a team responsible both for Shell Energy's strategy development and for leading prosecution of Shell Energy's growth agenda in Australia.Key to this critical role will be driving financial and analytical workstreams that inform decisions and development directions made by the renewables team on both a project and portfolio level, including supporting related internal and external Boards.Driving these outcomes will include the preparation and operation of project finance models for specific wind projects, preparation of valuation models for investment proposals, due diligence on externally produced models, and ongoing market and commercial benchmarking.Creative, critical, and pragmatic thinking is essential to delivering tasks in a timely manner.An attention to detail and uncompromising rigour are essential personality traits for this Senior Project & Investment Analyst to have the confidence of key stakeholders within Shell Energy.This position will report into the GM Renewables and will support the broader commercial and technical functions of Shell Energy Renewables.With honesty, integrity and respect, you will be responsible for:Preparation and operation of detailed project finance and valuation models for wind, solar hybrid (e.g.wind plus batteries and other similar technologies); Development of investment cases for existing or target renewable energy projects or portfolios, including commercial and financial evaluation, conducting due diligence, preparation of investment architypes and realisation strategies, identifying and evaluating key projects risks, and documentation and presentation of investment proposals; Preparation and presentation of results from financial modelling and analysis to key stakeholders including Shell Energy Executives and internal and external Boards; Maintaining intelligence and databook libraries on market pricing and trends for key project component inputs (both technical and economic); Shadow pricing of competing technical solutions, suppliers and partners; Assessing relative economic attractiveness of alternate technology solutions to determine what we might pursue to best suit our investment case and needs of our customers; Commercial partnering support through assessing value pool sizes and finding joint economic benefits; Ad hoc modelling that supports commercial decision making and deal structuring. What you'll bringHere's what you'll need to thrive in this role:Previous experience building financial models for a similar remit, ideally with a leading Big4 accounting firm or major bank; High proficiency in the development and operation of project, valuation and debt financial models; Relevant experience in renewable energy (wind, solar, transmission, and/or BESS) including strong analytical scrutiny on proposed solutions; Ability to summarise and communicate findings and insights in written, visual or verbal format; Experience that demonstrates intellectual curiosity and continuous learning.
