The ACT Parks and Conservation Service is seeking highly motivated and experienced Rangers in Charge to coordinate the delivery of critical land and reserve management programs across the ACT's protected areas.
These positions work closely with a range of operational staff across PCS as well as staff from the Office of Nature Conservation and Biosecurity and Rural Services teams in the Division.
Duties and responsibilities include:
1. Coordinate, monitor and report on the implementation of operational, work, project and management plans, ensuring targets are met in a timely and cost-effective fashion.
2. Manage the day-to-day operations of Rangers, Technical Officers and Field Staff to ensure courteous and responsive dealings with the public; efficient use and care of assets and equipment; and, compliance with policies such as WH&S, workplace diversity and industrial democracy.
3. Supervision of all staff including authorising timesheets and planning for staff movements, rostering and leave.
4. Oversight of various work depot locations ensuring all issues related to WH&S, equipment and storage are addressed or brought to the attention of the Area Manager.
5. Rapid response to matters of public safety and participation in emergency incidents such as search and rescue, vehicle accidents or fire suppression.
6. Participation in developing annual operational plans, work plans, strategic plans and other agency planning activities as required.
7. Undertake incident management duties including participation in fire standby, fire hazard reduction programs and fire training.
8. Perform duties as required but not limited by the relevant legislation.
Eligibility/Other Requirements
Essential:
9. Experience undertaking incident management duties including participation in fire standby, suppression and training.
10. A degree in natural resource management with diversified experience of 5-8 years AND/OR equivalent associated natural resource management/environmental science qualifications (eg. cert IV, associate diploma) and extensive experience in a relevant field.
11. Manual Drivers licence.
Desirable
12. Chainsaw - Trim and Crosscut.
13. Chem Cert III.
14. ATV and/or Quad Bike, 4WD.
15. First Aid or Remote Area First Aid.
16. WHS White Card.
Notes: This is a temporary employment register that will be used to fill full-time Ranger In Charge (TO4) positions within Parks and Partnerships. The register is valid for up to 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
