About the Role:
Senior Lawyer in Group Treasury
The Senior Lawyer in Group Treasury provides expert legal advice and support to ANZ's Group Treasury business. They proactively provide legal support on complex debt and equity capital markets matters and transactions.
You will primarily work on the legal aspects of ANZ's unsecured and secured debt capital markets funding, with issuance and programmes in Australia, Europe, the United States and Japan. The securities you will advise on include medium term notes, regulatory capital securities, covered bonds, securitisation, and commercial paper.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide legal advice on all aspects of debt and equity capital markets transactions for ANZ as issuer.
* Identify and manage cross border legal issues.
* Support a culture where Legal is a guardian of the bank's balance sheet, strategy and reputation.
* Provide technically excellent, strategic and clear legal and regulatory advice to business stakeholders.
* Provide proactive and inclusive support to Group Treasury team and other ANZ stakeholders including the wider Legal team.
Requirements:
* Experience gained from a top law firm and/or equivalent in-house legal role in the financial services industry.
* At least 3-5 years' post-qualification experience as a lawyer (either in private practice or as in-house counsel) with strong technical legal expertise in banking and finance law and a proven ability to exercise judgement in the identification and management of legal risk.
* A good understanding of treasury related business concepts, including the operation of debt capital markets.
* Ability to deliver timely legal advice that helps the treasury business achieve its commercial objectives.
* A well-developed risk radar and the confidence to speak-up and escalate risks appropriately.
Preferred Skills:
* Experience with AMTN, EMTN and US debt programmes.
* Experience with covered bonds, securitisation and other secured funding techniques.
* Understanding of the prudential regulation of capital.
* Understanding of financial services laws and regulations including Chapters 6 and 7 of the Corporations Act.
