The ideal applicant will be looking for an opportunity to demonstrate their contemporary knowledge and skills whilst sharing our passion for clinical excellence.The Cairns Laboratory is located in the Cairns Hospital – the largest major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and located just mere steps from the ocean. Cairns is located in tropical Far North Queensland with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. With a relaxed lifestyle and year-round sunshine, the region comprises dynamic and culturally diverse communities with excellent entertainment, recreation, arts and sporting facilities.On top of a generous base salary, medical practitioners also receive additional allowances including motor vehicle, professional development and retention and attraction (50% of base salary). In Cairns a locality allowance and rural retention and attraction allowance also apply (5% of base salary) to form the total salary. In order to maximise your income you also have access to salary packaging arrangements.For applicants from interstate or overseas the Queensland Health workforce attraction incentive scheme may be applicable. Full time eligible health workers will receive a payment of $10,000 (pre tax) following relocation and commencement subject to the provision of evidence of relocation acceptable to the delegate. Following 12 months continuous service with satisfactory performance an additional payment of $10,000 (pre tax) will be payable.Key competencies (role specific criteria)Demonstrated contemporary knowledge, skills and ability in Anatomical Pathology, participate in the frozen section service, perform MDTs, and be able to participate in an after-hours on call roster, and a high level of professionalism required in the position, especially objectivity.Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills necessary for all aspects of the position.Demonstrated skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to conduct relevant training, teaching, research, investigation, analysis and management.Knowledge of the ISO 15189 and NATA Medical Testing Requirements demonstrating continued accreditation in your clinical specialty for all laboratories across a diverse network.Qualifications, registrations and other requirementsMandatory requirements are a medical qualification and tertiary qualification in Anatomical Pathology (FRCPA, or equivalent) and be registerable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Specialist Pathologist.The incumbents must be Fellows of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or equivalent.Please review the role description for further information.
