This role requires a combination of strong technical skills and strategic thinking to create, develop, and implement advanced data solutions that enhance mining processes, increase safety, and promote sustainability initiativesJob DescriptionAs Senior Data Scientist, reporting to our Enterprise Systems Manager, your Responsibilities will include:Develop and optimise predictive analytics models to improve operational performance, including equipment efficiency and resource utilisation.Design and implement machine learning algorithms for safety monitoring, process optimisation, and environmental assessment.Conduct data analysis and create interactive visualisations to drive actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Design and maintain scalable data architectures using Microsoft Fabric, integrating diverse data sources including IoT sensors, Fleet Management Systems, and enterprise platforms.Develop and optimise data pipelines while ensuring security, compliance, and governance frameworks.Implement and maintain automation and tooling for data pipelines and MLOps.Collaboration and LeadershipBridge technical and operational teams while providing mentorship to junior data professionals.Drive innovation and continuous improvement in advanced modelling techniques and data-driven practices.QualificationsTo be a success it is expected you will have:Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and other data analysis tools.Hands-on experience with data engineering frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Databricks).Knowledge of database management systems (e.g SQL, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL).Strong understanding of machine learning, AI Concepts, and statistical modelling techniques.Strong experience in DevOps practicesFamiliarity with coal mining technology and fleet management systems (e.g., Minestar Fleet) is a bonus.Experience5+ years of experience in data science, architecture, or a similar role, preferably in the mining or heavy industry sector.Proven track record of deploying data solutions in large-scale industrial settings.Soft SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.Leadership and collaboration skills to manage multi-disciplinary teams.EducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
