About the Department
The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.
About the Division
The School Provision and Establishment Division leads strategic oversight of programs and services that have a strong interface between the Schools and Regional Services Group and the Victorian School Building Authority. The division's key functions include planning to meet Victoria's growing student population, end-to-end support for establishing new schools, meeting the compliance requirements for school registration, and ensuring equitable enrolment policies.
About the Role
The Enrolment Policy team contributes to the Department's stewardship of the school system through the development of clear, transparent, and equitable enrolment policies. This stewardship includes managing key operational resources and guidance, such as annual enrolment timelines, statewide enrolment forms, and supporting documentation requirements. The team is also responsible for providing expert advice to drive the development of online enrolment systems to simplify and modernise the enrolment process. By supporting schools and regions to implement consistent policies and processes, the team helps ensure that every Victorian student can access a quality education.
The Senior Policy Advisor will help shape the future of enrolment at a system level by driving policy and program improvements in consultation with key stakeholders. Additionally, the role will collaborate with individual schools that require bespoke enrolment policies to support their unique student cohort.
The responsibilities of the role include:
* Providing expert advice to regions, schools, and stakeholders on enrolment policies
* Developing streamlined policy guidance, advice and communications about enrolment policy using findings from consultation, data and evidence
* Designing and delivering projects to enhance enrolment processes and policies
* Consulting with stakeholders to gather insights and feedback for policy development
* Preparing and presenting recommendations in the form of briefings, reports and papers for the Department's executive and key decision makers.

* Demonstrated experience or understanding of policy development approaches and processes
* Ability to engage with concepts and ideas, and apply them to operational settings
* Strong stakeholder management skills including highly developed influencing and negotiation skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage a range of audiences on policy and implementation issues
* Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills
* Curious, and with a passion for learning and working as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications and experience in relevant field, including public policy and social sciences.
