Group Marketing and Corporate Affairs (MCA) helps drive CBA's brand and reputation, working closely with the business to deliver insight and creativity to engage our customers, communities and broader stakeholders. MCA works across all areas of the Group as a trusted partner to engage and influence stakeholders to build equity in the brand, increase CBA's competitive advantage and support the Group's business success and market value.
Government and Industry Affairs advances and protects CBA's interests by informing policy development in an evidence-based manner, encouraging the adoption of policies that align with CBA's values and strategic objectives, and minimising the risk of adverse regulatory change. The team also engages with Federal and State politicians, Government departments and relevant industry associations.
Do work that matters
Your role is to support the CBA Group's development of public policy and engagement with Government and major industry associations.
In this role you will:
- develop public policy positions and respond to Government inquiries across a portfolio of responsibilities, under the guidance of the GIA leadership team.
- prepare accurate and high-quality briefs for the GIA team on policy issues, taking in policy analysis and the political context;
- prepare high-quality meeting briefs for executive meetings with Government representatives;
- support the preparation of executives to appear before parliamentary inquiries;
- contribute to the team's monitoring of the parliamentary schedule and relevant parliamentary hearings;
- maintain proactive contact with political and policy contacts; and
- manage constituent issues.
Your Responsibilities
- Monitoring the political and policy environment to identify and highlight emerging opportunities and risks to achieving the commercial and reputational objectives of the Commonwealth Bank Group.
- Develop strong relationships across the CBA Group and understanding of the Group's commercial objectives.
- Supporting the GIA leadership team to develop Corporate Affairs strategies to build and sustain CBA's reputation as an industry leader and to influence the operating environment in CBA's favour.
- Managing constituent matters from time to time via relationships with the business and MPs/Senators.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct sets the standards of behaviour, actions and decisions we expect from our people.

- High-level conceptual and analytical skills and exceptional verbal and written communication capability.
- Discretion and maturity in dealing with sensitive issues and ability to build relationships across a broad set of stakeholders.
- Commercial acumen to discern potential impacts of policy changes on our business and ability to reconcile conflicting internal responses to proposed policy changes.
- Strong understanding of the machinery of government, including direct experience liaising with Government departments and parliamentary offices.
- Experience in the day-to-day management of policy issues, either within Government or a listed company, including the provision of timely advice and the preparation of accurate responses within deadlines.
- Tertiary degree with excellent results in economics, law, political science or other relevant humanities discipline.
