Cook Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team in partnered facilities. As a Cook, you will play a crucial role in meeting the nutritional needs of residents with delicious meals.
You will work collaboratively with the facility's dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Responsibilities:
* Menu Planning and Preparation: Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
* Meal Service: Ensure meals are served at the appropriate temperature and in a timely manner.
* Serving Residents: Assist with the serving of meals to residents, respecting their food preferences.
* Food Safety and Sanitation: Adhere to all guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
* Menu Development: Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
* Inventory Management: Monitor food inventory and communicate ordering needs to the Food and Nutrition Manager.
* Public Health Requirements: Ensure all Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements are met.
* Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
* Special Events: Assist with special events and catering as required.
Requirements:
* Education and Certification: Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
* Chef/Cook Certification: Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal.
* Food Handler's Certificate: Must have a current Food Handler's Certificate.
* Work Experience: Experience in Long-Term Care settings or with seniors is preferred; institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience accepted.
* Vulnerable Sector Check: Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months.
* COVID-19 Vaccination: Proof of COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care's immunization policy.

* Patient-Centered: Genuine sensitivity to the needs of elderly residents and ability to effectively handle physical demands of the position.
* Physical Demands: Ability to bend, stand, lift, withstand various temperatures, and perform hands-in-water tasks safely.
* Time Management: Multi-tasking and completing routines within assigned schedules.
* Teamwork: Flexibility and adaptability within a team environment.
* Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written in English).
