Dept of Defence 9 months contract 2 x 12 months extension options Full time hours Your next employer/ the background Weapons Propulsion Group, within Defence Science and Technology Group (DST Group), conducts research and provides advice on weapon propulsion technologies to enhance Defence capability. The Group maintains expertise in areas of weapon propulsion systems and technology, gun and rocket propellants, and rocket motor surveillance and lifing. The Firing Facility is operated by a small team with the group who design, manufacture and maintain the instrumentation and computing infrastructure in a standalone network environment. Your mission Our client, DST Group, is in need of an Electronics Engineer to provide support to the Rocket Motor Firing Facility managed by Weapons Propulsion Group. The role Electronic (70%) – assist firing site personnel with general maintenance and improvement of the instrumentation infrastructure. Mechanical (30%) – participate in the preparation and conduct of on-site and off-site explosive ordnance (EO) trials as required. This will involve assisting the Firing Officer with general firing site setup and test preparation and may include occasional EO handling. Monitoring, coordinating and escorting of maintenance contractors within the firing site. Other support activities as required by Task Leader or Group Leader Weapons Propulsion. You will need Electronics expertise including demonstrable knowledge and/or experience in circuit design and fabrication (including proficiency in soldering, prototyping, PCB loading, cable manufacture and connector termination). Sound mechanical aptitude Self-motivated and able to work well in a small team environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office software, eg. Word, Excel, etc. Current driver’s licence. Must be an Australian Citizen for Security Clearance purposes.
